The Playground

In order to create a fresh and lively space for me it was extremely important to create a project that would be highly flexible and adaptable to the needs of its users.

That is why I have chosen to use the scaffolding system like the basic material for my project. Firstly it’s because of the simplicity of its assembling. The structure is lifted very quickly by creating nodes between the vertical and the horizontal elements just by using some wedges and a hammer. Secondly it is like a toolbox. The project is created by using just some elements of a different length and height. By combining them in different ways we manage to create completely different structures. And thirdly, by adding some extra elements like prefabricated wooden and polycarbonate panels, prefabricated doors and steel staircases, we create and define our space.

The project functions like a continuous path and walk, between the inside and the outside, between going up and going down, between different balconies, terraces, platforms etc.

But the project should function both in summer and in winter. Luckily here, the extreme flexibility of the structure helps us. By using the same elements it can be easily adaptable for a summer and a winter version.

What I’ve searched and what I think I’ve achieved is a flexible, livable space, which possibilities can be explored in the same time while the art and memories about the history of the hotel Metropole is being explored.

Dieser Entwurf ist ein Ergebnis aus dem Entwurfsprojekt Hotel Metropole #2 Raum für Kunst, Erinnerung & Widerstand.
