Pfaller Robert Is it true that Artists are most of the time alcoholics or need any kind of drugs to be able to produce an art piece? Or is that just a cliche that an artist is most of the time under drugs? From the "Club of Haschich-Eaters" to the Ganja of Rastas, from the hallucinogens of the Hippies to the cokes of the so-called "Connected", there are so much to say about what inspired those cultural movements. How can we explain that five from seven US Nobel Price Winner were very hard alcoholics, Sinclair Lewis, Eugene O’Neill, William Faulkner, John Steinbeck and Ernest Hemingway who said himself "Only drunken writers are good writers". For short French actor Gerard Depardieu confessed in a released book that he drinks fourteen bottles of alcohol every day, all mixed, from wine, beer, cognac, vodka, champagne to whisky... even more than Goethe whom his large consumption of wine is very well know, four to five bottles of wine a day ??? What about all those artists who appear to be very good ones, but in fact who consumed an important amount of drugs and who, without drugs might not be what make them so famous, so productive and so well appreciated, Basquiat, Kippenberger, Raymond Pettibon, Warhol, Jim Morrisson, the Beattles, Hendrix, etc... The question is if artists really need drugs to produce an art piece?
