An underground above the ground

It will float above peoples heads for a while, with his translucent skin and his many feet. Then one day it will just leave us, maybe to explore new cities, maybe to go back where it came from.

Arriving to Venice through the gateway of Piazzale Roma seems to be a travel itself. The installation connects the borders of the square and accompanies the pedestrians to the bridges, real gates of the old and picturesque City. Fast & Curious is composed of three elements:
  • the metallic structures is similar to railway bridges and it is easely assemblated trough prefabricated components;
  • the wooden footpath, that can be seen as a huge platform with four arms, indicates the possible ways;
  • the membrane, composed like a spiderweb in and around the metallic structure, is made of plastic wrap and generates a soft, organic alien form. This material plays with light trough a soft transparency and reflectivity and creates a feeling of protection while creating a space similar to a cocoon.
The fast is the footpath, the curious is the translucent milky skin. WELCOME TO THE CITY! This student work was designed during the semester programme project Venezia - Città Immaginarie.
