Get a glimpse of Venice not just as one complete picture but as fragments, fragments of reality mixed with your own thoughts, dreams and imagination that together gives you your Venice.
What is your Venice?
What are the images you get when thinking on Venice?
Which visions are floating around inside your head?
Are you remembering movies you have watched, or books you have read, pictures you saw long ago or adverts using Venice as a playground. A place like this is never just a collection of buildings, people use for living and working, but it is always part reality and part illusion and fantasy.
Too many people are walking along the Canal Grande without thinking on details. They are distracted by a huge illusion of a town that's history is still it's future, which is promoting itself because of its still untouched visible history
Glimpse gives the people, not just the tourists, the possibility to get confronted with the many aspects Venice has to offer. They get the chance of rethinking their own thoughts and compare them with reality to form a new image.
The idea is to get confused and disoriented with the first sight of a never expected urban landscape, completely different from all these typical expections of Venice.
This confusions then leads to a realization of your personal ideas and visions of the city and what you would have expected to see.
When slowly entering this foreign landscape you ropes hanging from a invisible ceiling invite you to get closer and to pull them, sometimes you have to climb some steps on a ladder to reach them. If you do so, a gap opens in the wall and gives free the view on venice as expected. The viewer compares the two contrasting images and gives answers to questions that had been asked by the wall.
The first glimpse on something is always the strongest impression of something. This student work was designed during the semester programme project Venezia - Città Immaginarie.
